What is the Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE)

The Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) is an international, hands-on science education programme that supports science teachers and technicians to more effectively introduce their students to the fundamentals of biotechnology.

In the UK, ABE is coordinated by the Teacher Scientist Network (TSN) and delivered through a network of five regional hubs, supporting schools across the country.

Our hubs are located in Cambridge, Hatfield, Hull, Mid Kent and Norwich

Together, these hubs provide access to specialist expertise, training, and high-quality, curriculum-linked resources (adapted to the English National Curriculum) — including the loan of laboratory kits and consumables to enable engaging practical science in your classroom.

Whether you are new to ABE or a returning participant, our dedicated ABE UK site brings together everything you need to get started or continue your journey. You can learn more about your local hub, explore teaching and student materials, and find out how to access training, support, and laboratory-based learning opportunities.

What you’ll find on our ABE UK pages

    • Information about the five UK hubs and how to connect with your local centre
    • CPD dates and course programmes
    • Curriculum-linked teacher and student guides (in pdf format)
    • Slides from training and other classroom resources
    • Details on free kit loans and included consumables
    • Information on training, support, and how to get involved
